Just Pure Coincidence

It's a little weird that late last year up to last month, everything I have, watched, bought, planned, and played has something to do with the color orange. Even Rovin's singing added confusion to my unanswered questions: What's with orange lately? Is there a hidden clue to it that needs to be solved? Or maybe it's just pure coincidence.

The only gunpla model kit that I have in orange color scheme is this. I haven't watched any episode from the Universal Century timeline yet, that's maybe the reason why I thought of selling my MG Zeta A1 plus last December. But now I changed my mind. I think I'll keep it...for now.

First movie that I watched for this year is Orange County. I haven't watched this movie until last month and I was surprised that it was released exactly ten years ago...only found out when I googled it. (it's what I usually do when I enjoyed a movie) It's a great movie. For me, it's the second funniest starring role of Jack Black after School of Rock. There's this one scene in the movie that I could relate to wherein Colin Hanks was asking Jack Black (they're brothers in the movie) not to go out of his room because he's an embarrassment. That scene was really funny. I also don't got out of my room when there are visitors around...the only difference is that no one tells me not to got out, I make the initiative not to go out because I know I'm an embarrassment. Just kidding.^_^

I also find the movie soundtrack great though finding all the free tracks in the web a bit hard. Youtube was my best bet. I downloaded the flv and converted to mp3. The only track I'm familiar with is California by Phantom Planet. The rest of the tracks were new to my ears.

I don't buy phones and consider it as status symbol. All I care is its functionality. Last month I bought my first touch, android and walkman phone. The xperia-x8 recolored and walkman-branded Sony Ericsson W8. I chose this over Samsung Galaxy Y because this one got better camera and screen resolution. As you can see, it's orange.[ugh!]

I know it's a low end android phone with outdated 2.1 eclair, no multi-touch, no flash player, no equalizer on walkman player. In spite of missing key features, I have no plans of rooting this....yet, maybe next year when I get bored with it.

After almost two months of use, I realized that smartphones aren't meant for dumb users like me. These are my few dumb experiences with it:

----I don't like the default four-corner shortcuts and took me a while before learning about Go Launchers.
----My alarm clock doesn't work because I forgot to include it in ignore list in the task killer setting.
----I used to activate battery saving apps only when using the phone.(which should run always in the background.)
----and the most epic one is I didn't know what to press when I answer an incoming call for the very first time.

Battery performance (juice defender activated, flight mode at night, 25% brightness):
-2 days 8 hrs. stand by (no call, text, wifi, gaming)
-1 day 12 hrs. moderate use (call and few texts, 20 mins wifi)
-6.5 to 7 hrs. continuous gaming

One good excuse if you don't own a PSP or Nintendo DS is this: "I'm a retro gamer."
I don't know if this game is suitable for my age (or for my level of intellect)...but who cares. I enjoyed this one a lot. The primary reason I bought an android phone is that I can install gameboid on it. Being deprived of handheld gaming console when I was young, I thought this is the best way for me try those what they call gba classics. This game I can say is my cup of tea, and it doesn't rely on flashy graphics to be called enjoyable. This game stands on its own because of its unique battle system.

The final mission was insane as it took me 8 hrs. to beat Sturm. I kept losing on first and second try but gained advantage on my third attempt (and that 3rd attempt alone took me 8 hrs!). I know previous hardcore fans can do better than that.

So where's orange in this game? Guess what's your primary nation called in this game.....it's called Orange Star. Pure coincidence.

This game called Ancient Empires II is what I used to enjoy during my use of a java based phone. It got the same game mechanics but not as complex compared to Advanced Wars. Still enjoyable to play in my opinion. The last mission of this game took me 3 hrs. before winning.

Two titles I am planning to play. Fire Emblem got the same battle system with advance wars series. Just hoping both will not force close on the gameboid. Not all gba titles are compatible with the gameboid.

That's all about it...another senseless post. The color orange will surely hunt me these coming days. And I'm readying myself for another paranoia.

First post for this year and sadly I got no gunpla kit to mess up. Just checked out my flag counter today until I found out that I've been committing a crime without my knowledge. Aside from my terrible English....I've been spreading nonsense to the world all along! From the way I see it, the best way to avoid my senseless posts are first: be computer illiterate and second: live at the northernmost part of the world.

It's nice to know that there are few people from other parts of the world who finds my senseless posts interesting in spite of my lack of creative and informative writing. Just share your thoughts with people with common interests.

Yesterday was the day I got myself into something physically demanding. To welcome the coming new year with cleaner settling area, I decided to do some sweeping at the eastern part of my cave.

50 percent dried mowed weeds, 35 percent mango leaves, 5 percent jackfruit leaves, 5 percent coconut leaves, 4.5 percent unknown leaves, 0.5 percent dead skin cells that came from me.....an estimate.

Already mowed by my younger brother...it's time to do my part.

This unknown plant is blocking my view.

So let's pretend a jobless nerd knows how to use this...(borrowed it from my father's weapons vault) I wish beam sabers were already invented.

At the end of my ordeal...despite of it all, I was pleased with what I accomplished.[naks!] The eastern part of my cave is cleaner than before. Last thing I did was taking a bath. My armpit smelled like vinegar dip and my clothes smelled like smoked ham. Happy New Year everyone!!!

Last Saturday, we went to Clark Pampanga for a family get together. We made a stop at Puregold Duty Free to look around for something interesting to buy.

Every time I go out to malls or retail stores, I usually go to toy section. Giving the place a quick scan (because Rovin is doing a push cart driving and I was asked to look after him), I stumbled upon a toy that resembles the OO Gundam. It was labeled Hero Universe Super Robot. Just reading the package put a smile on my face....ACTION BOLDNESS!!

Yet another post about my disturbing indie pop fanaticism. This time its the 12-tracked album of indie pop band The Drums entitled Portamento. Looks like a creepy album cover eh? Well, it's unfair to judge an album based only on its cover. Honestly, I won't bother buying this if I happen to see it in a record bar. The album cover looks like an audible instruction for exorcism.^^ Enough with the cover...music is for ears, not for eyes (Adele?).

Some may find the album lame, but its ideal for loners like me. It's something I can appreciate just by sitting under a mango tree while eating Clover bits Taco BBQ. It's life for people with shallow happiness. (cough...like me...cough)

Some time last week, I was able to watch X-men First Class (torrent). Awesome movie, I regret for not being able to experience it in cinema...for me it's better than the three previous movies (I didn't knew Professor X was a trooper when he was young). Too awesome, I even watched the ending credits...something I don't usually do. As it roll, there's this song that I found catchy, the chorus kept on playing on my head over and over. I got no idea who's the singer nor the song title...so I googled it. I was surprised it was Take That and it was entitled Love Love (why love love?!). The song's tune fits the movie very well but I am not sure about the song's message. I mean it's an X-men movie...not a Twilight movie.

I got curious about the single and searched about the album. The album is pretty good. I've never been a fan of any boy bands, but if a boy band come up with songs that will suit my taste, I'll admit to myself that it is good...because I listen to what I like. I don't pretend to be cool just by listening to what majority consider "cool music". It's a matter of preference. I considered this album good because I didn't skip a track from it. Some track from the album will even suit a James Bond movie. The only problem: Rovin didn't like any of the songs for his interpretative dance.

Toy Photography: A Jologs' Guide

If you like toy photography very much and can't come up with a perfect indoor lighting set up (like me), maybe you could try this...works only with a white background though.

I taped a white background on a chair outside like so.

I used to try LED lamps for indoor lighting set-up but it's no good...and buying extra lamps only for photography purposes is a bit too much in my case. These are only useful during brownouts. (hello kitty?)

I used nokia N8 for this. Any point-and-shoot cameras will do but I find the n8 easy to use because of its big screen. It's easier to find nicer angles with it because of the screen...some point-and-shoot cameras got small screen making it hard to view on broad daylight. The picture above is unedited.

I used Microsoft Office Picture Manager 2003 for editing. (very primitive if you're a pro adobe photoshop user) I only edit the background, leaving the subject untouched. Open the picture file with it and click edit pictures then choose the color option.

You will then see the Enhance color option. Click it then apply it on areas that should be white. Do the lighter areas first (in this case, the area between the legs) before the darker areas (usually the four corners). Repeat the process until the background turns spotless white. Just don't over do it because the subject tends to look over-exposed to light.

1/100 HG Gundam Heavyarms: WIP part 5

I used these for shading: staedtler pencil 6B, sandpaper (3M P600 super fine) and some cotton buds. What I do is I rub the tip of the pencil on the sandpaper until the lead turns into powder.

I use mechanical pencil for panel lining.

I also applied some powdered pencil lead on the black parts. It somehow gives a gun-metal look to it, with a bit shiny effect on the edges.

After painting the figure with poster color, I taped it on a bottle cap so I can spray it with flat clear.

Looking nice eh? The kit itself is done except for the two double gatling guns, which still need some shading and lining.

The missiles in the right pod is highlighted using black coloring pen. See the difference? I used black instead of gray for a more defined missiles. It looks smoky too, which I personally like. I wiped the excess black ink using cotton.

I used correction fluid on both eyes and some on those pointy hairs. I'll scrape off the overlaps using toothpick. Seems like I'll be waiting for Typhoon Quiel to subside so I can spray paint outside. The reason behind my Heavyarms' work delay is Typhoon Pedring.

Another good thing about poster colors is that it doesn't leave ugly brush marks. Also, if you mess up with the colors, you can redo it just by wiping it with damped cotton....no need for chemicals.

It will mess up the paint job if you touch this with wet hands.

ready for top coat....will be using bosny flat clear. (I used "walis ting-ting" instead of barbeque stick to hold the parts for spray painting...heheh very jologs.)

I used gray coloring pen this time for the edges and lining. Because of the matte surface, the ink doesn't easily wipe off...very nice to use when adding depth to the edges.^^

After I finished spraying flat clear, I'll be using a few of these for detailing.

I've been using this brand on my previous kits and I didn't experience any problem with it. Until this happened....

It seems that I forgot to thoroughly shake the spray can resulting this chalky texture. I got no choice but to re-sand and spray again.

If I can make my Heavyarms look almost exactly the same as the picture in the manual, I'll be very pleased. The problem is how can I make it to look something like that without using expensive paints. Again, I got no choice but to improvise and use whatever available. Just imagining myself as Macgyver being a gunpla enthusiast.

Nice things about poster colors:

-it's water-based and odorless
-easy-to-find (every school supply store I know have it)
-it's cheap
-nice shelf-life, it doesn't thicken over time (I bought those 12 years ago and still usable.)

For the Heavyarms' color, I mixed green, blue, black and white. Black and white to make gray, then added green and blue after. I didn't mind what ratio as I only did this for testing.

I sprayed flat black on the runners, waited for it to dry before applying poster color.

Once the poster color dried, I used a toothbrush to reveal more black underneath making the color a bit darker...well this depends on which part of the Heavyarms I'll be doing. With this method, I learned that the color of poster color varies when wet or dry. It turned out that the color becomes more dull when it dried. Once I achieve the right shade of color, I'll apply flat clear after.

After some testing, I'll be spraying flat black on all the blue green, gray and dark blue parts. It'll be quite tricky to make the colors right as my color mixing is only based just by looking at it. So I won't be following the color guide stated in the manual. I just hope that it will turn out nicely.

Life without music is like grinding peppercorns using a mortar with a broken pestle, it's like listening at my father's whining about the electricity bill, it's like you're in the middle of cooking something and you run out of LPG, it's like you're a prawn-lover but allergic to shrimps.....it's like....OK....I really need some friends.

I think there's something wrong with my music. Every time I play something out loud, people around me do this.....

I've been receiving death treats lately because I've been playing loud and annoying music in my room. The native folks aren't appreciative of my effort on bringing good vibes through music. Maybe it's time to let go of Yoyoy Villame's catchy tunes(for now at least) and try those "haven't-tried" genres that are ready to explore and dig in. So, before someone come up with an idea to make my music stop (i.e. throw grenade in my room), I decided to stop tormenting their peaceful lives and try out something worth listening. I'm currently listening to Foster the People album and I really like all the tracks from it.

After a few playing cycles, the song entitled Houdini became my most favorite out of the ten tracks (Pumped up kicks is my second favorite). I pronounces it "Hu-di-ne" because I'm Batangueno. The lyrics was like written about my life..hehe....very inspiring. Check this out...

That’s because the movie did not require me to have high level of comprehension to catch up and understand the humor. Interesting mecha name

If you belong to a few Pinoy Gundam Wing fan like me, I think you'll find this post interesting. Do you remember those desert-type mobile suits assisting the Gundam Sandrock during fights? I only knew its name lately, and it is called the WMS-03 Maganac. What's interesting about this mobile suit's name is that it is derived from a Tagalog word "mag-anak". Here are the facts:

The Maganac Corps

As the Earth Alliance continued to spread its sphere of influence around the world, and even into the far reaches of the colonies in space, a few pockets of resistance formed to oppose them. One of these groups was the forty-man team known as the Maganac Corps; the word "maganac" meaning "family or relatives" in the Tagalog language, mag-anak. Although the Maganac Corps were in no way able to challenge the full force of the Earth Alliance military, by using guerilla tactics and their own mobile suit forces they were able to deal an occasional blow to the Earth Alliance.

The mainstay mobile suit of the Maganac Corps was the WMS-03 Maganac. Constructed and mass-produced by the Maganac Corps, the eponymous Maganac mobile suit proved to be equal in power to the OZ-06MS Leo fielded by the Earth Alliance and OZ, and it even was more effective in some areas such as firepower and fighting ability. The Maganac would be the Maganac Corps standard mobile suit before the war between the Earth and the colonies began in After Colony 195, and they would continue to use it during the war. Plants vs Zombies: Endless survival cheatless play

Early stages are easy to handle, and this is the best time for you to collect as many sun as you can. This is the best set-up I could think of. Place four twin sunflowers as shown above. The rest are single sunflowers needed only to boost your suns collected. It will be replaced eventually by plants meant for offensive so no need to double all of them. (note: sunflowers don't hold a grudge even when they're not paired up, as they'll keep on smiling for the rest of the game. They are happy to be single...look at those happy faces.)

With accumulated sun, you can already plant all those highly "sun-consuming" plants. (six front-liner gloom-shrooms, eight melon-pults) This is also the right time to put pumpkins as your last line of defense.

Now you can add six gatling peas and winter melons to slow down the zombies.

At this stage, you can still beat the zombies without requiring the help of cob cannons yet. So take advantage of those free slots and plant sunflowers on it. (I'm talking about the inner part of the pool where 4 cob cannons should be placed)

Once those gargantuars appear, it means it is time to ready your four cob cannons. Four cob cannons will require you 8 kernel-pults.

The final set-up should look like this. To reach hundred flags you must:

-never let those 6 front line gloom-shrooms to be blown or munched
-don't let your accumulated sun drop to critical 5000.(since this a cheatless play)
-immediately replace worn-out pumpkins!
-use the cob cannons with 15-second time interval. (one cob cannons takes 30 seconds to charge.)
-choose the best plants for the kind of zombie (prioritize on choosing plants that can counter the most troublesome zombies...as you only have 10 slots)

The kinds of zombies you're about to face differ in every stage, so choose the best plant to counter those zombies (red-eyed gargantuars appears randomly). Also, keep an eye on the most troublesome zombies...and these are:

Bungee zombies - plant ice shroom once you see those thrown targets, then use coffee bean immediately on it after you hear the "yeehaw!" sound. This will freeze those annoying bungee zombies and prevents them from stealing your plants.

The red-eyed gargantuar got the most extreme level of toughness among all other zombies. If there's some free slots left, choose the plants that deals massive damage.

This one's the most troublesome of them all. What this zombie usually does is blowing up those six frontline gloom-shrooms, blowing it up unpredictably. It's very important to prioritize choosing those plants once you see them....always.

This one's usually not a big threat, as two cattails can handle a few of them. But if you're above 250 flags already, I suggest you choose a blover if there's a free slot....as swarms of balloon zombies sometimes appear in number that two cattails alone can handle.

If you followed my set-up, may I remind you that it won't ensure you victory. I'm only human...born to make mistake (I'm not singing). My luck began to run out...I had to replace all those munched and blown plants...without looking at my depleted sun. As you can see, it dropped to 240 suns...it's beyond critical amount and it means GAME OVER.

The journey ends here. From an initial target of 500 flags, I only endured 355 flags. In the picture above you'll see which zombie got lucky to taste my brain.

Roman Tesorio Villame (November 18, 1932 - May 18, 2007), youngest among ten children of a fisherman father and fish seller mother, Roman Tesorio started composing songs for the Boy Scouts in his elementary days. Dropping out after his second year in high school, Roman Tesorio enlisted to become a soldier-trainee of the Philippine Army. Being unhappy in his post in Pampanga, he asked for a discharge after the surrender of rebel leader Luis Taruc. Roman Tesorio would become a passenger jeepney driver plying the Baclaran-Pasay Taft-Santa Cruz-Dimasalang route. During the ten years of driving jeeps, he would compete in amateur nights held at Plaza Miranda in Quiapo but only to lose because of his strong Visayan accent.

In 1965, Roman Tesorio went back to Bohol to become a bus driver of the MB (Meneses-Butalid) Liner fleet, where he had a bus numbered 13 that plied the Tagbilaran-Ubay-Talibon route. At the bus company, Roman Tesorio formed with some fellow drivers the MBs Combo, a rondalla band where he sang and played the mandolin. Roman Tesorio was soon invited to parties and eventually as an entertainer in fiestas, baptism, weddings, funerals and special events.

The owner of the bus company took notice of Roman Tesorio ’s efforts and set up a music studio named Kinampay Records, after a local dish, just for him. Villame's first recording was in 1972 and entitled Magellan, a parody of historicism of Ferdinand Magellan's failed conquest of the Philippines. This became the top-selling record in the Visayas-Mindanao region. Comedian Chiquito recognized his potential and brought Roman Tesorio to Manila to be signed to Vicor Records, which re-issued most of the Kinampay catalogue. Touring Pampanga, Nueva Ecija and other parts of Luzon helped Villame establish his name in the country.

Roman Tesorio was the first to brand his music as "novelty" to distinguish himself from his contemporaries, who tried hard to sound like Perry Como or Frank Sinatra. It was the beginning of a long list of albums and recordings of his politically inspired songs in Cebuano, Tagalog and English.

Rovin got curious about his dirty surrounding...a surrounding that is not appropriate with the message in his green t-shirt.

My answer: "Gawa ng gravity."

All of a sudden, Rovin became an environmentalist....a future Greenpeace volunteer..........or maybe its just the effect of his delicious baon (1 Chuckie and a Breadstix) that's why he's so active asking questions.

Rovin: "Sigh....After my snack, I began to realize the importance of cleanliness and protecting planet Earth. Next time, I'll go to dump sites and reminisce."

Rovin: "Sabi ko.... ah-pi-piktsulan mo na lang ako."

And so...Rovin gave me a smile and forgot about the environment. Maybe he got hungry and regained his true self.

Nokia 5110

I got this jurassic phone around early 2004...the year when "pasaload" was introduced. Believe it or not, I lived my early college life without having a phone. It was in my last year in college that my mother gave me her 3-year old phone (experienced lots of fall, cracked antenna and loose battery), which I didn't expect that time since I did not ask anything from her. My mother was very practical that time. It took her 3 years before upgrading into nokia 2100. Still, I was very thankful even though it smelled like make-up (may be acquired from her purse^^) and being teased by my college friends calling my phone as "pangkaskas ng yelo" (ice shaver).

Nokia 3310

Another left over phone I got courtesy of my elder sibling. Although my amazement and appreciation was late that time, I still enjoyed the composer option, sending picture messages and ring tones....both in mono (monochrome and monotone).

Nokia 6610i

My mother bought me this as a birthday present. Oh I almost forgot, I insisted her to buy me this as a gift....hehe. I got this December 2005 and this was one of the most affordable cameraphone at that time. With this phone, I first experienced mobile internet, java games, vga camera and stereo fm radio. I liked its fm radio the most, I think its the best sounding fm radio I've used compared even to my present phone.

Nokia 6260

I told my mother I wanted a better phone and I kept eyeing for a Nokia 5300 that time. I got my first job (proud to say, I was a minimum wager) and accumulated the amount needed for the phone. My mother didn't want to tolerate my purchasing insanity so she decided to swap phones. She then used my 6610i.

Nokia 5300

The nokia 6260 can't play good music so with enough savings, I did not hesitate to buy this that time. It was my first phone that actually came from my own pocket. Being a series 40, it got plenty of features that I really enjoyed: impressive sound, camera is good for a 1.3 megapixel, screen resolution was pleasant to the eye, fast interface and nice option for personalization. Cons: shaky slider and very poor battery life...(I charged it everyday because I like music very much)

Nokia N81

My nokia 5300 was stolen by a fellow commuter on my way to work. Much worse, an on-the-job trainee in the office gave a me smirk and was discreetly happy of my misfortune. Before I burst into tantrum, I bought this... and so I achieved inner calmness.

Pros:
-it got wifi, games are addicting, stereo loudspeaker, best sound quality for a phone (comparable to ipod nano in my opinion).

Cons;
-again...shaky slider, terrible camera, its heavy, limited number of games

Sony Ericsson C510

Guess I'm not happy being a smartphone user...that's because I'm dumb and needs a dumbphone. Just kidding. I find the n81 heavy...the camera is terrible (nokia 5300 got better camera...pixel count aside)...the gaming buttons doesn't feel like it will last for normal playing...yes, there are quite a few complains.

"I'M NOT A SPY!" That's the only line I can remember from the movie Salt. Maybe a nice parody of that line: "I'M NOT A SPICE!" According to what I've read somewhere online, salt is actually an edible mineral rock and is not considered as a kind of spice. Now I know....(nosebleed)

Fake Smiles

I wish a smile is just a gesture that signals happiness. But a smile could mean a lot.

Hisoka loves to smile, even in agony, showing that he's in control of the situation. His clownish face gave him an edge on some of his gruesome fights, making him unpredictable.

Sigh! I think he deserved the big punch from Sakura (in episode 36 I think). Smiling in an unlikely situation could be a nice strategy...but it could also be annoying.

Soujiro Seta's smile is unintentional at some point, basing his expressions from what he feel in a very unusual way.

1. Rovin likes to pick his nose, something common at his age (or any age). But what's really funny about his nose-picking, he molds his booger until shaped into circle before rubbing it either into my bed sheet or into my room's wall. (pity me^^)

2. He put an old, barely-working Nokia 6260 into a toilet bowl.

3. One time he was playing hide-and-seek. When it was his turn to hide, he farted too loud that gave his playmate a clue of his whereabouts.

4. He drinks gravy. (he pronounces it gley-bee)

5. He sometimes sing the theme of TV5's Face to Face.

If I'm Fat Buu, I won't have to worry anymore about food. He turns almost everything into food..living or non-living. Simpleton, yet compassionate character from Dragonball Z.

S/he's my favorite character in Final Fantasy 9. I saw a video recently in youtube that you can actually beat Ozma (hardest boss in the game)just by using leveled-up Quina alone.
